Our son has been in the hospital since birth with a heart defect. He had 3 surgeries by 2 months of age. When it came time for his 3rd surgery to get a pacemaker, we had Haley as our nurse. She saw him off to surgery that morning and was there when he got back. She managed his care well and watched for signs of any complications; she was very attentive to our son. She had been our nurse on day shift all weekend and was pleasant the entire time. We enjoy her company, as she made us feel "normal" while we were there.
We have been in the hospital with our son for a while now and as the days pass under these circumstances, at times, you feel like you're living two lives. Haley made that part easier on us. She carried on conversations with us and made us feel reassured every step of the way. She listened to our concerns and relayed those when needed. She never tossed our concerns off and never made us feel silly for asking questions.
She included us all in the care of our son where we could help, thus, making us feel like we were able to be more involved with him even though he is in the hospital and can't have a "normal" newborn experience. Haley explained everything in a way that was understandable and if there were any questions after, she promptly got us the answer. Not only has she done her very best with the patient, but also with our 5-year-old son also. Our older son is a hand full...full of life and questions. That never intimidated Haley not one bit, she found a way to engage with our older child and made him feel so special.
Haley is an amazing person and nurse. I know my son is in great hands not only at Children's of Alabama, but with Haley by his side. Thank you Haley and thank you all for everything you have done for us.
