I believe that Suzanne Daigle is deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award, to recognize her as a nursing mentor, and thank her for the dedication she shows her patients and staff. Suzanne is a role model for our profession and a natural leader. Always visible, she promotes an open atmosphere of accountability and ultimately compassion. Her tireless focus on the people we care for, starting her days at 5:30, ensuring that patient rounding is seen through properly, also makes her a leader by example. As a result, she is readily accessible to our night staff, so that all concerns are addressed promptly which is an extraordinary advantage to our team.
Suzanne is extremely passionate about every aspect of our unit. She cares deeply for our patients and always considers customer service and excellent patient care as top priorities. She shares great compassion discussing each of their care during plan of care rounding
Aside from keeping our unit running smoothly, Suzanne cares deeply for the staff. I have watched as she called staff at home just to check on them during rough times. She wants to make sure all staff members feel valued on a daily basis. She is constantly promoting staff satisfaction and recognition. Suzanne upholds integrity in every aspect of her job and promotes a very fair workplace on the unit. She does not make assumptions but gathers all the facts before proceeding. She is the first to promote collaboration between the members of our unit as well as other departments. She is a true born leader and leads by example and does not expect anything from staff that she would not do herself. She is an excellent manager who has been recognized by other top leaders in this hospital as one of the gold standards for management at Parkland.
The culture Suzanne has created on the unit is one of compassion for patients, respect for one another and a trusting environment. Without a strong leader, a unit will fail. This unit has thrived because of our awesome leader! She promotes professional development by encouraging staff to participate in committees, professional organizations, obtain certifications, and attend classes and conferences.
We have a huddle very morning and Suzanne does her best to be enthusiastic and involves staff so everyone has a positive outlook on the day. She always ensures we have recognition for staff who do a great job and makes sure we all see the same vision for our unit. The vision she shares with us is one of very high standards and professionalism on all levels. We have constant feedback on our performance needs and improvements. At the end of the year for employee evaluations, she starts in October and spends an incredible amount of time and effort on every single evaluation to make sure each employee gets the praise and recognition they deserve.
We believe we have the best manager here at Parkland. Suzanne embodies the Parkland culture on all levels. She has been at Parkland for many years and deserves recognition for the quality work she has done to enhance our unit and nursing in general. She serves on nursing voting boards within the community as well. She is not afraid to speak up in a room full of very important people. Suzanne is always showing appreciation to her staff. She will recognize a job well done and encourages staff to take the time to recognize one another.
Suzanne has been a wonderful mentor and has supported my growth as a nurse. She is fair, compassionate, visible, and transparent. She fights every day to ensure that her nurses and the patients she serves are happy, safe, and supported. Suzanne is very deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award!
