When my mom went into the hospital this time - we knew she had metastatic breast cancer in her lungs, but we weren't fully aware of the extent. Eliza helped our family through a very difficult hospitalization where all of us, and especially my mom, were struggling. Eliza went beyond to spend time with us, to explain in comforting terms what was happening, and to console my mom in her moments of sadness, loneliness, and terror at confronting a grim diagnosis. For instance, in the evening when my dad would leave for home, "Eliza held me as I cried and rubbed my back and consoled me when I was so sad!"
I know nurses are supposed to be a compassionate but Eliza was above any one we experienced. She was a light in our darkness.
