I had the bad fortune to get the news that my baby's heart had stopped. As sad as I was, I felt very comforted by great care I got from all of the L&D team, but especially by Diane my attending RN. I have been a healthy employee of Kaiser since 2011 and for the first time in 5 years, I got the first-hand experience on using the facilities as a member. Diane by far confirmed what I already knew, how personal, and professionally she takes her job. Early morning, after I was admitted, I was very pleased to see Diane walk into my room as my attending nurse. I knew I was in good hands.
A few years back, when I cleaned a room I had missed a spot, and she noticed it. She apologetically pointed to me the spot I missed, and in a very team oriented manner told me how vulnerable and frail newborn babies are. The way she explained it to me, made me even more careful every time I cleaned. Her non-reprehending and very caring approach were the biggest lessons I could have learned in a health care environment.
During my hard time, grieving the birth of my stillborn baby, she followed all the protocols while treating me like a human. As busy as I know they get, she made me feel like I was her only patient. She took such a great care of my baby, making sure she treated the situation as close to what I would have wanted to do but even better. With her experience, she took care of everything. She included my husband in creating memories, like showering the baby, taking fingerprints, giving me a hand knitted blue blanket and diaper for my baby boy (made by the wonderful volunteers, she explained), and more importantly captured in pictures memories that will be forever a treasure for our whole family. When I was discharged, she gave me a box with a card signed by the team, the pictures she herself took and developed, and the clay fingerprints. Kaiser is very fortunate to have such a great employee. I am very proud to be a part of such a great team. Diane went above and beyond the call of duty.
Note: This is Diane's second DAISY Award!
