A week before Christmas I was making rounds in the Emergency Department. Several staff members along with Jason (Nurse Lead) told me about a patient who had been in the Emergency Room for several days because her caregiver was unable to care for her. They were fairly certain she would still be with them on Christmas Day.
Valerie told me about how sad she was for the patient. Valerie was scheduled to work on Christmas Day and she was determined to make Christmas a wonderful day for the patient. She was planning food, gifts, cards, and even a gift the patient could present to her son. It was going to be special and Valerie and the team were going to do everything in their power to make it so.
That day I felt God's love pouring out from Valerie. It made me so proud to know that her passion for caring was driving her to take it to this end.
Matthew 25:40. . . "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
Valerie brought that verse to life in our Emergency Room on Christmas Day.
After the Holidays, many people told me about the special day Valerie and team created for the patient. Tears were flowing. Not only did the patient feel God's love that day, but everyone else did as well.
