My husband has battled cancer since March, 2006. We have had to endure surgeries, procedures, treatments (chemo and radiation), rashes, facial swelling, continuous thick mucus to expel, medications, scans, endless doctor appointments, a feeding tube, a blood clot, a tracheotomy, and constant pain.
Through all these difficulties, my husband continues to work, farm and hunt. His love for hunting brought him over 1,300 miles from home to Wyoming. He had been sick (due to chemo) before his departure but insisted that he proceed with his hunt.
I received a call from my husband's hunting buddy, he said that he tried to wake my husband up but he was unresponsive. Afterward, I received several calls from the attending physician that he was critical and in an unstable condition. In a panic, I got on the first flight out and arrived at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center by nightfall.
There in ICU, we met two remarkable nurses…Kristi Davis and Eric Stransky. Out of a decade of meeting with healthcare professionals, Kristi and Eric with their excellent nursing care exemplify the type of nurse every patient deserves.
I had a lot of anxiety while my husband was in ICU. The length of his illness, plus being so far from family and friends took its toll on me. So Kristi not only took exceptional care of my husband but would kneel down by my chair in the middle of the night to reassure me that my husband was making progress and she would rejoice with each increment of improvement. Even after leaving ICU, she came to our regular room to check on us and wish us well.
Eric, like Kristi, would encourage us and rejoice as my husband made continuous improvements. What stands out in our minds, are the wonderful explanations of medical terms he gave us. He would take extra time to explain in detail what was going on, as he closely monitored and cared for my husband.
Kristi and Eric went beyond excellent nursing skills and compassionate care, they truly "loved" us. I pray God blesses them to continue their careers for many years to come. God gave us two angels in ICU, so I could travel home with my husband with a grateful heart and praise to my Lord.
