Lourdes Quejadas is so kind to her patients. She is calm in demanding and hectic situations. She is the most helpful to her coworkers. Lourdes will always give a helping hand. There have been many occurrences where she truly deserved a DAISY, but this one particular situation stood out for me the most.
There was a patient who was severely affected by his CVA diagnosis. Transferring him was a big production; it would take three people to complete it. He had dysphagia, so giving him his medication would take a lot of time. He had aphasia, so it was very difficult and again, time consuming in attempting to understand him. Being a nurse is not just a job for Lourdes, she truly treats her patients with respect and dignity. When I saw Lourdes sitting at his bedside, while she was giving his medications, I saw him smiling. She was so caring and gentle with him. He was very aware of his current situation, but she made him realize that things were going to be okay. This patient was also someone's husband, someone's father, and someone's brother. Every night, his wife would call and ask her how he was doing even though the wife only left an hour prior. Every night, Lourdes would make certain that she answered all her questions and I truly believe his wife went to bed more at ease knowing that her husband was in good hands. She trusted his nurse. She trusted Lourdes.
