Christina gave outstanding care to a patient on postpartum over the last 2 days. It has been my experience in general as a resident at this hospital that patients with histories of any substance abuse/misuse, or less than ideal lifestyles or life circumstances can be met with judgement and even at times disdain. However, as I watched Christina care for a patient on post-partum over the last 2 days, I observed unmatched compassion, commitment, excellence, and heart felt understanding for this patient and her situation. The patient had been left permanently with her 12-year-old daughter on L and D. The patient's significant other was a long-haul trucker and she had been living in his truck. Her and her daughter had nothing more than the clothes they had walked in with. Christina was this patient's advocate and confidant. She listened compassionately while the patient told us her story of abuse and maltreatment. Once we had heard her story, Christina immediately began trying to figure out an exit plan for this abused patient before even social services came by. When social services did come by, Christina partnered with them to make sure that the patient, her new son, and her daughter had everything they needed to be able to make the long trip back to family successfully. Although I am early in my career, I doubt there will be many stories of a nurse's compassion and care that I will remember for the rest of my life as I will this one.

When my son was in the hospital, Christina went above and beyond for us. She was not my son's nurse but helped us distract him by giving him a toy, and heard me say something to my mom and brought him a warm blanket. Those little things meant the world to us and made our stay that much better.

Christina was my nurse in postpartum and my son's nurse when he was moved from the NICU to the ped's floor. Not only did she celebrate with me all over my drops of colostrum and make efforts to put the drops on my sons binky, but she helped facilitate my boarding on ped's floor while he was still in the NICU. Once on the ped's floor when my son was brought up here, Christina made my other two children feel welcome and important. Christina is a nurse who "gets it" when dealing with new moms. Thank you, Christina!
