This award is especially meaningful to me because I am 40 and I have ITP. I have struggled over the past 20+ years with this disease (and a few others) so I have had a lot of experience being a patient not only at Inova Fairfax, but other hospitals as well. Out of all the nurses that have been by my beside, Robin sticks out as one of the best nurses. She displayed a quiet compassion for me that was consistent. I think what is special about her is that she makes "eye contact." It sounds small, but it shows that she cares and makes you feel that you are a person and not just a patient. I asked her a lot of questions, I was on a lot of medication, and she did a great job answering questions and balancing it with her nursing duties to administer medication. Her extra care and attention really made a difference to me and I appreciate that.
