Grace Michael is one of those extraordinary nurses who go above and beyond for each and every one of her patients. Her tireless mission to treat every patient as if they were a family member or lifelong friend, is something that I have always admired about her. Recently, Grace cared for a patient who hadn't had the typical postpartum experience. Her delivery had been emergent, the baby was transferred to another facility, and the patient developed a few complications. Grace spent three long days advocating for this patient. She made countless phone calls in an attempt to secure the resources that this patient needed to go home safely. Despite frustrations, a few tears, and the many roadblocks she faced along the way, Grace continued to fight for this patient. Her focus remained on the patient, her family, and the baby she desperately needed to go see. Grace made sure that this patient, who was Spanish speaking, understood everything about the care she was receiving, and that she understood the plan of care. Grace even called on her day off to make sure the patient was on track for discharge, because she knew how important it was for the patient to get to her baby. While Grace goes above and beyond for each of her patients, she truly advocated for this patient, who was lucky to have a nurse such as Grace by her side.
