My husband was hospitalized for Cardiac Bypass Surgery. During his stay, we met many staff members on 3 different floors. We would like to tell about the nurse that stood out for her care of J and her communication with our family.
After surgery, J had a very difficult time with being able to rest due to the many interruptions. J was feeling exhausted and frustrated that there was not a way for time to be better scheduled. That changed when we met the nurse, Emily Winkelman, from 5 East Cardiovascular Care.
Emily focused on J's needs and concerns. And, she provided a plan for his care and rest. J and I were able to finally obtain some much needed rest. We cannot express how greatly we appreciated Emily's care, bedside manner and focus on J's needs. She worked diligently with us to make this happen. J definitely felt a forward progression towards his anticipated discharge.
Emily has a wonderful, compassionate, caring bedside manner to help patients through even the most difficult of situations. J always dreaded the abdominal Heparin injections, but with Emily's technique of delivering the injection, she was able to lessen the discomfort for J. She provided support before, during, and after these injections. Instead of dreading this, he knew Emily would to her best to lessen the discomfort.
I am also a nurse and I rank Emily among the top nurses I have met, for care and bedside manner. She is a true example of a great nurse! J and our family found her to be wonderful. I stayed with J during his admission so I can attest first hand to her quality care.
Emily is a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award for her clinical skill, compassionate care, exemplary service and a commitment to excellence.
