I have recently moved to Houston and have not designated a primary care physician. I entered the hospital via the emergency room after a visit to an urgent care facility. I was eventually diagnosed with two issues, a viral infection of unknown origin and a blood clot in my lung. There were ultimately several specialists involved in determining the diagnoses.
Shaye immediately sensed a need to help coordinate communication among the several attending physicians. Her efforts clearly expedited the flow of information among the doctors so "next steps" could be initiated swiftly at each new phase of the diagnosis. She ensured that my file notes were updated promptly with each new doctor visit and, when necessary, she called the doctors to clarify instructions they had issued. At one particularly confusing point in the process, she was able to determine that a typo in the notes provided by the pharmacy staff was the basis for the confusion surrounding certain drugs prescribed by the doctors. Shaye's efforts clearly allowed me to be discharged to go home sooner than would have otherwise been the case.
Shaye's nursing skills and her engaging personality are clearly exemplary. It was, however, her sense that my situation needed the extra level of coordination that truly sets her apart. I greatly appreciate her extra efforts and the results she achieved.
