There are many amazing stories to tell about this nurse but I will tell this one: On Cinco De Mayo it was a hectic day on the unit. There were multiple admissions, transfers, rapid responses and codes. The day began with a code in which we did not have an available bed. We adjusted our staffing and Kimberly became an advocate to get her patients downgraded and transferred out of the unit. This allowed the Unit to be able to absorb this critical patient. While doing this, Kim who is certified in inserting lines, placed one at the bedside for emergent care to be initiated.
As the chaos continued, Kim remained calm, cool and collected while having a smile on her face. While she continued to take care of her own assignment, she also took the time to educate and review the consent with another family. As she established a rapport with this family she was able to take another nurse's patient down for a necessary procedure in radiology. Upon return to the floor, there was an unstable rapid response that the unit had to absorb, while another nurse needed to leave for the day. Kim absorbed that nurse's patient and helped her team stabilize the rapid response.
Throughout the entire day, Kim was very flexible. She relieved nurses and the secretary for lunch, cleaned and turned patients without any complaints, and continued to have the same smile on her face. She saved lives this day like many other days. Her team always enjoys working with her and believes she worthy of the DAISY Award, for always exhibiting the ICARE standards. She is an Eastside rock star on a daily basis!
