I met Kim Mitchell after my chemo and radiation treatments. I was about to have a double mastectomy.
Being a cancer patient, I was so scared! This was a terrifying thing in my life. Just before my surgery I came in to see my Doctor. Kim is his Primary Nurse. She was there when I first met the doctor. My Doctor told me all that would happen and when he left, Kim was still in the room helping me take in everything he said. I was so panicked but Kim helped me get through the panic feeling.
Later that month, Kim would help me get through the trauma of surgery. I called Kim my "Doctor Nurse Kim" because every other time I would see her she would check me to see how things are going. She would take pictures sending them to my Doctor to have him look at them to make sure things were healing well. If there was anything wrong, Kim would get in touch with the doctor and talk to him about it.
Kim would reassure me that things would get better and they did. She would always go above and beyond to help me get through the horrific time I was having. If I was having a concern, Kim said I could call her any day of the week and she would try to answer my call. If Kim didn't know the answer, she would talk to the Doctor and call me back.
Then I had a problem from the radiation; it really damaged my skin. My skin was starting to pop little holes in it. My Doctor tried so hard to make everything right, but we ended up having to take the breast as the result of an infection. I got through the no breast thing finally. It all healed and I was ready for a thing called Latissimus Dorsi flap reconstruction so I could have a breast again. Kim came back and now I feel better again. I am finally healing well, but without Kim, I don't think I would have gotten through it. She is my angel on earth, always caring for people. I have gone through so much, but without people like Kim, I don't think it would have been so easy!
I want to thank Kim very much for all the help and comfort she has given to me.
