Stacy has only been on our unit for just over a year, but she has made such a positive impact. She has jumped right in to help out the unit and is very involved. She is our IPOC and restraint champ and she takes these roles very seriously, often coming in on her days off to help audit charts. Even though she has only been on our unit a short while, Stacy has been trained to charge nurse. I have heard staff say that they love it when Stacy is in charge because she does such a great job keeping the unit safe. Stacy has such great assessment skills that we felt that she would make an awesome preceptor. Of course, when we asked her she said yes and has been orientating some of our new nurses and doing a great job at it. Stacy is always recognized by staff and patients for her compassion and dedication. She was also nominated for the Magnet Clinical Nursing, Novice award by the Behavioral health leadership team.
Stacy is one of the kindest individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She is caring and considerate to her coworkers and her patients. She will always make time to be there for them no matter how busy she is. The Behavioral Health Unit can be extremely challenging at times, but Stacy meets it head on with a great attitude and a smile on her face. She goes out of her way to be there for her patients, always taking the time to listen to them. She often picks up on non-verbal cues that her patients are in emotional turmoil and feeling unsafe. She always advocates for her patients and will go above and beyond if she feels that it will help them. Recently we were informed that one of our patients in the emergency room was extremely agitated and acting out. He had been given PRN medication, but he continued to escalate. Upon hearing that the ED staff was going to have to restrain the patient, Stacy went down to see the patient whom she had cared for in the past. She was able to de-escalate the situation ensuring the safety of both the staff and the patient prior to returning to the unit. A co-worker who accompanied Stacy to the ED stated later that Stacy did a phenomenal job. Stacy is a true DAISY Nurse.
