Debbie is an excellent nurse. She not only shows compassion while she is at work with her patients but continues with that compassion outside of work. She has gone on several mission trips, donating her time and money to help those in need in other countries. She also helps those in need here in her own community.
Recently, there was a young patient who was not going to be able to go home after his hospitalization. She took this patient, who had some very desperate needs, under her wing. Debbie cared for him during his admission and continues to make daily visits to his apartment. She worked with many people and was able to find a place for him to live and assistance for him. She has also been instrumental in getting the wheelchair-bound patient to and from his outpatient appointments using her own time and vehicle. She provides him with nursing care, food to eat, as well as any other physical, spiritual or financial support he needs. Debbie has been an angel and an advocate for this patient and certainly has gone above and beyond the core values of Carilion Clinic. She has sacrificed so much for this patient and much of what she has done cannot be measured or quantified. Debbie has given this patient hope and a place to turn when he did not have one.
Debbie is a shining example of a nurse and truly is an inspiration to all.
