Frances Wilson is a true DAISY Nurse for her exemplary service, commitment, and contributions to ostomy patients and their families in Orange County. She has been a relentless, driving force in the continued success and growth of our local United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA) support group.
I have had the honor and privilege of working with Frances over the past 5 years and wanted others to know how much our group has benefited from her caring spirit and contributions. Her professional expertise and knowledge about ostomy care are valued and appreciated by all that attend. This support group serves patients not only from this hospital but from other local hospitals as well. I have witnessed Frances providing compassionate care and kindness for these patients and their families as they struggle to adjust and adapt to living with an ostomy. She has a true passion for this patient population and works tirelessly to ensure improved outcomes and less obstacles for these special patients as they navigate both health care and insurance issues that affect how they care for their ostomies.
Frances has also been instrumental in volunteering for activities behind the scenes that keep our group going, such as serving as the current secretary, helping with supplies and making important referrals and recommendations for these patients. She has provided several educational presentations for our group and has arranged for many interesting speakers to come and present applicable information. Last year she developed and promoted a community Ostomy Education class that was held monthly at the medical center. I was happy to support this class since it was the only available community-based education class for this patient population. Although the attendance was not what we had hoped for, the people that did attend benefited from her expertise and referrals.
Frances has made and continues to make significant differences in the life of patients and families that are learning to adjust and live with a new ostomy. I hear many compliments and praises for her from our attendees and the patients she has cared for at UCI. She is an outstanding example of a compassionate health care professional and is deserving of recognition for the care and support she has provided to numerous ostomy patients here in Orange County.
