Emily was my husband and my labor and delivery nurse for the birth of our first child. Her calm demeanor, welcoming personality, and excellent nursing skills are the reasons I will return to TCH for delivery of our next child.
*****
My husband and I are very relaxed, easy going people and Emily fit right in for the mood we wanted to convey during our delivery. Our birth plan was simple — see how things go, laugh a lot, and preferably deliver without pain management or an epidural. Emily didn't blink an eye at our "unstructured" method and was quick to suggest different positions and techniques that would help me cope.
As my labor progressed slowly, Emily gave us space if we needed it, but also was extremely attentive to our needs. When things were really slow she stayed in our room and carried on a conversation with us like a new friend. This included entertaining my husband's comical questions about working in a hospital.
Overall, Emily reduced any underlying anxiety or fears both my husband and I had by simply staying calm, personable, and offering excellent care. She achieved our goal of keeping us laughing. We never once had a concern about my health or our child's health while under her watchful care.
I could not have asked for a better nurse to attend to our family during such a high-stress and important time. Thank you Emily, for making our baby's birth a positive experience to remember for the rest of our lives.
