My father was in the SICU after emergency surgery to remove a blood clot 11 days post-op from quadruple bypass surgery. He suffered cardiac arrest while being transported to remove the clot and never regained consciousness. Tierney McCue was one of the nurses assigned to my dad. She was especially helpful. Tierney never seemed to tire of answering our many questions and patiently explained the status yet again for each newly arrived family member. Her skills as a nurse were obvious as shown by her confidence and by seeing many other nurses coming to her for instruction and advice.
She made my entire family feel so comfortable with her tremendous care and concern for dad, that we felt that we could go home in the evening and leave dad in the care of our adopted little sister. In our 1 month stay at Beaumont, we did not meet a more complete nurse than Tierney. She put up with all our repeated questions, the crowd of all the family members in the room at once, handled the calls, put up with bad humor, and my over protective brothers early morning questions, all while treating and caring for dad like he was her own father! We will never forget her kindness, compassion and skill, and we are grateful.
