Our mom was a retired registered nurse. She taught us that anything worth doing is worth giving our absolute best and nothing else is good enough. Patient care meant a lot to her, and she loved taking care of her patients and her family with equal love. Miguel has these qualities as well. He came in multiple times to answer our questions and put us at ease before my sister's passing. Even when he could not give us direct information, we knew the end was near. Miguel's attentiveness, his nursing style, the tone of his voice, and his ability to joke around with us and not be inappropriate was all very appreciated. He knew exactly what to say and when to say it. When I thanked Miguel personally, he said, "I'm just doing my job." I answered, "No, you're doing more than that. You can't teach compassion and that is what you have." We then hugged and cried together.
