I had a wonderful experience at Doctors Hospital because of one amazing nurse, Janette. I was a surrogate mother for a single male, and I knew when the delivery came it would be a bit awkward since the father would be in the delivery room for the birth of his son. As the day got closer, I hoped I would get a nurse who would keep my privacy in mind and I did get just that. Janette was amazing from start to finish. She was extremely nice, always smiling, and was very patient. One of the first things Janette told me was, "I want you to be as comfortable as possible, so let me know when you want me to ask the father to step out because you are my patient and you come first."
Janette took the time to explain the process to both me and the father which was pertinent to both of us. I was a first-time surrogate and this was his soon to be first child. Being a surrogate isn't common, but Janette acted naturally and with compassion as if she did this every day. She was by my side every step of the way acknowledging my every need. I never once felt out of place, which was a fear of mine due to the situation. No matter how busy she was she never showed frustration.
I have a vivid memory of giving up towards the end. I wasn't progressing like the doctor wanted me to and a C-section was mentioned to me. Janette gave me hope, and I pushed through because of her motivation and extraordinary care. She spent 11 long hours of labor with me and I'm so thankful for her. I would not have been able to get through this without Janette.
