I was admitted to Banner Gateway Hospital on the Oncology floor. My prognosis was not good. It was a scary and extremely stressful time for me and my family.
During my hospital stay, I feel very fortunate that I had the nurse I had assigned to me. She was so caring and always understood how overwhelming I felt. Her words were calming and helped me see there was hope. She let me know how a positive outlook is so important. One day I needed a particular procedure ASAP because Chemo needed to be started. In fact, I was told that my cancer was growing so fast that 1 day made a difference. Early that morning my heart went into Afib and took most of the day to return to sinus rhythm. After a long day of touch and go, Heather came into my room announcing to me and my family that the hospital finally released me to have the procedures. She stayed longer just to make sure all went well for me. I feel the care she gave me was over and above her clinical duties. My family was very impressed with Heather as well.
