I would like to nominate a nurse for her compassion and empathy as well as her patience in dealing with a very challenging patient.
There was a patient on our unit who would frequently have outbursts due to the extreme difficulty he was faced with. When he was upset upon dealing with his daily, hourly challenges and upon changing the PCA with this nurse, I experienced a "behind the scenes" caring and incredibly attentive moment in doing everything possible to assure comfort measures were addressed.
Clearise assured the patient right at change of shift that she made him a priority in ensuring he was properly bathed, the pain was controlled, and began a plan to get him sunlight. I believe she touches her patients with her interactions greatly.
