A patient arrived to our rehab needing a wound vac. The rehab RN called me for help with placing the wound vac and Laura had heard about it. She had her own team on 5 but went to Central with me to obtain supplies and go to the room. Laura made sure pain meds were on board and when they were not, made sure the RN gave them and came back 30 minutes later to do a dressing change. She spent at least 45 minutes with this patient completing a dressing change, ordering further supplies and instructions for the rehab unit on how to address his multiple wounds. She helped the RN describe the wounds for documentation purposes as well.
We typically turn to the 6th floor for wound care expertise however Laura voluntarily went out of her way to help the patient ASAP. She is an awesome example of what an amazing team we have!
