It was 6:30 am when I found myself entering the Heart Center for a heart catheterization. My wife P was also there to be with me during the procedure. We explained to the lady processing me into the hospital, that P also had physical issues, as she passed out and fallen on her back when checking on me in the middle of the night. She was in horrible pain and should have been the "patient" needing care.
Suddenly there appeared not one but two wheelchairs to carry us to my room. This was my first encounter with my nurse Jennifer. She immediately took us to "our room". I quickly came to know Jennifer as Jenn. I thought I was falling into lockstep with her introduction and explanation that her tasks and timeline to complete all paperwork was short. As per my usual MO, I barraged her with questions and conversations. She immediately got my full attention when she reminded me of her timeline challenge. I was to learn "story time" would come later! She has a very perky way of keeping things organized and moving forward!
Even though I was the patient, Jenn quickly realized the pain my wife was one and assisted her in finding comfort and peace of mind. Throughout the two day stay, Jenn assiduously took care of P's needs including her nourishment.
I was expecting to go home shortly after my heart catheterization. However, Jenn had another surprise for me. I was again enlightened by her perky way of informing me, that I was "invited" to stay another day for more tests. Her personality, wit, professionalism, and patience were key elements in making my stay at Bayonet Point Hospital very pleasant and uplifting. She displayed a great deal of confidence in the execution of her responsibilities while showing empathy and concern for P and myself, as well as all of her other patients.
In closing I want to emphasize three things:
One, the facilities at RMCBP are excellent. Two, each and everyone staff member was exceptionally pleasant and professional. Three, when leaving, Jenn told me that she would like to be my nurse if I ever came back to RMCBP! I have been to more hospitals in my life than I can remember, and her request is the first such kindness bestowed upon me in those 80 years.
I have had many fine nurses take care of me through the years. Jennifer is very special. RMCBP is very privileged to have her on their staff. The many qualities I have noted above qualify her to be a DAISY Nurse!
