On New Year's Day my family received the devastating news that my mom had lesions on her brain, we were immediately transferred from South ER to 3North here at the main hospital. Within just a few short hours we met Diana, my mother's first night nurse and who we would learn was a heaven sent angel.
Diana has the most compassionate and caring heart I have experienced in a Nurse. There were times when my mom was ready to give up and Diana was right there holding her hand bringing her back to fight. My mom lost her middle son in April of 2008 in a tragic car accident and his motto was always "Don't sweat the small stuff". During one of the first conversations Diana had with my mom about being positive and putting on her boxing gloves to fight, I overheard her mention that exact same saying. With tears rolling down my face, I looked over and said to my mother "that's your son talking to you via Diana".
A few days later in the middle of the night mom had another break down, she wanted to go home and give up, it upset me tremendously; I had to leave the room because I was so upset and crying hysterically. Diana didn't come running to my rescue; she went to my mother's bedside and once again got her to get that fight back. During all the pep talks Diana gave, my family learned that just in October Diana had lost her father to cancer. This woman is SUPER WOMAN and deserves to be recognized for her amazing caring heart and genuine care and love she gave to my mother and my family during our time of need.
Diana is a perfect example of what a Nurse should be; making you feel like you are the only patient she has and doing so with a kind, compassionate, caring and loving heart. She truly is an amazing woman and nurse and I will forever be grateful for what she did for my mother and, trust me, my mother feels the same way. She definitely deserves much more recognition than this acknowledgement. Diana is a woman I will never forget, ever in my life and I could never thank her enough for the genuine love she showed for my mother.
Thanks for the late night pep talks Diana, you truly were sent by God himself to touch my family's lives and I really could never express the true gratitude I feel for you. You were meant to be a Nurse. I hope that once I complete nursing school I can say that I am half the amazing nurse that you are. We love you and again thank you for everything you did for mom while caring for her!
