Adel Austin always goes above and beyond to help patients with complicated discharge needs and truly seems to care about ensuring every single patient receives high quality care and service.
She recently went out of her way to assist a homeless gentleman who had been hit by a car. This patient's shopping cart had been damaged in the accident, and he was very upset because his cart was where he kept the majority of his belongings. Knowing the patient was opting to be discharged back to the streets, Adel started contacting grocery stores to see if one might donate a cart for this gentleman. With the help of the international discharge liaison, Adel secured a donated cart. She drove to the grocery store, loaded the cart into her truck, drove it to Brackenridge, and personally delivered the cart to the patient!
What an amazing act of kindness and dedication to Humancare. What makes this even more special is that none of the staff on the floor were surprised by Adel's awesome act because she does awesome things for our patients every day. She is an extraordinary Nurse.
