Monica Padilla recently took outstanding care of a pediatric patient in status epilepticus. The patient was critically ill requiring intubation, central line, and arterial line placement. Monica assured that this patient received the best care until he was successfully extubated a few days later.
The night prior to extubation the patient's sedation was lightened and the patient became confused and was tearful. If not for Monica's soothing voice, kind words and commitment to this patient's safety, the patient would have become extubated and could have suffered severe complications. Monica spoke to the child in his native tongue, comforted him and made sure his mother was aware of the patient's status; she even turned on cartoons to calm him down after nothing else worked. Such a simple gesture made a huge difference.
Great job Monica on a very difficult patient! We appreciate all you do every day!
