A mother of a 3 year old with possible meningitis came in alone with her two boys ages 3 and 11 months, Tammy held the baby until the father arrived to prevent the baby from possibly contracting his brother's illness.
Another time Tammy showed her compassion was the day after Christmas, when we were very busy and had two cardiac arrests. Tammy made their families feel much better by communicating with them and actually caring about their loss. She also made sure the wait time stayed down. Each patient she brought back she introduced herself smiling saying "Hi my name is Tammy and I am sorry for your wait, we're going to take care of you today, how was your Christmas? We are going to room ----, I am the charge RN today. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me, I hope you feel better soon."
You could instantly see the patient's demeanor become more relaxed and comfortable. She is calm, compassionate, quick and understanding. She's always in a good mood, and if she's not, no one would know.
