Dusty is a perfect example of compassionate care in nursing. There are so many instances that I could name of Dusty going above and beyond for her patients and their families but the most recent really exemplifies what nurses should strive to be. Dusty recently had a patient who was receiving end of life care. This patient had only one wish and that was to go home and see his dogs for a day. As you can imagine, there was a lot involved in setting up a day trip for this particular patient. His pain had to be under control, portable oxygen had to be set up, and the patient had to actually be able to sit in a chair for an extended period of time. For two days, Dusty advocated for this patient like no one I have ever seen. She was constantly in touch with the providers to make sure that the patient was comfortable and that his final wishes were met. She also made sure that his Spanish speaking parents were included in every discussion and were comfortable with the plan of care. Dusty has the biggest heart of any nurse I know. She gets to know our patients and their families and advocates for their well-being. Dusty is a true DAISY Nurse.
