We arrived at Forbes for the birth of our beautiful little girl, A. The nurses at Forbes were all extremely wonderful in Labor and Delivery and we will be returning if a second child arrives. As first time parents, the experience can be very scary and overwhelming, especially on the second night. That second night we had Nurse Katie. At the beginning of her shift, she was very welcoming and helpful with all the first time parent questions. As the night began my wife and I thought we had things under control, until A had other plans. A was up most of the night crying. We thought maybe she was hungry so we tried feeding; then maybe she had soiled her diaper so we changed her. It seemed impossible to figure out what A was saying until nurse Katie helped. When A had a hard time latching, Katie was there. When A had a gassy stomach, Katie was there. When we had a question, Katie was there. Once A started crying, it seemed like Katie was always there. I truly believe God puts people in your life for those special times when you need help. That night, Katie was that person for my wife and me. For me, Katie helped me problem solve the communication clues A was trying to give us. Katie helped me figure out the problem which in turn gave me a little more confidence as a new dad. Confidence which was invaluable! I believe the whole labor and delivery department is amazing here at Forbes but the one person I will never forget who helped us that night is Katie Plummer, the nurse who helped my wife and I become better parents. I thank God for those special people he puts in our lives for those special times. That night I thanked God for Katie!
