A father called 2East desperately looking for lactation support, however, our lactation consultant had left for the evening. After gathering information and details from the father, I was at a loss. I remembered Ashley, who was working on labor and delivery, had just become a certified lactation counselor. I called her, asked if she could help, and she dropped everything she was doing to offer her assistance. I listened to her conversation with the father. She was calm, kind, and soothing. She was never alarmed and graciously offered understanding and encouragement while educating. She was on the phone for about 20 minutes, and at the close, the parents seemed at ease enough to continue breastfeeding their newborn. Ashley demonstrated service excellently and went above and beyond the call of duty, as she often does.
