Sanom Prak is simply amazing! He handles every situation perfectly and I am always grateful to have him at a birth. Sanom has unflappable calm. When attending a birth, he approaches each baby as normal unless the baby declares it needs help, and transitions seamlessly into rapid assistance when an infant requires it. He is willing to assist labor nurses and providers when needed and is quick to lend a hand when he sees it is needed, without being asked. He knows where to find the tools his fellow workers need, getting out stools for shoulder dystocia, pouring mineral oil when a provider requests, sometimes even holding a leg, even though it is not his assigned job to do so.
Sanom is kind with patients and families. He reads the tone of a room quickly and matches it, matching the birthing family's silent concentration or joking manner as needed. He does his job expertly without unnecessarily imposing.
I attended the birth of one of our OB providers, which can be an added stress, and an added joy, to be caring for a knowledgeable colleague. When the new baby was a little slow to breathe independently, Sanom was there, assessing and reassuring in equal measure, and worked diligently to keep the new mom and baby together safely.
Sanom has a quiet but powerful presence. He is there as part of the birth team ready to welcome and celebrate new life, and he is there with a wealth of mastery of skill. Many families are not aware of his expert clinical mastery because he is unassuming, blends into the birth background and steps forward quietly, confidently and expertly to care for the baby for just a few moments.
Sanom works on a whole higher level of expertise in his clinical knowledge, patient interactions, and professional relationships. I feel completely reassured when he walks into a birth. His demeanor and his practice are both beyond reproach.
