My husband was a patient three times on the 4th floor in the past few months. Twice, he had the pleasure of having Cheree as his nurse. While he had great care from all of the nurses, Cheree was "extra special". I was able to see this from our initial encounter with her. The first time she cared for him, the admission was unplanned, as he had a complication from a surgery. We were both a little scared but Cheree's kindness, understanding, and advocacy immediately put us at ease. We never saw her without a smile on her face. She talked to him about things he was interested in like hunting and camping and when she was in the room with him it was as if he was her only patient. On his subsequent admission, when she saw he was assigned to the floor, she spoke up and asked to be his nurse. She also suggested he be placed in a larger room with a fold out couch in it because she knew I would stay with him and would be more comfortable. Another thing I noticed, was that she was precepting new nurses. She mentioned many times how much she enjoyed teaching the new nurses and you could tell she genuinely meant it. As you can see there was not one big thing that Cheree did, but many little things that made such a difference. It is true what they say about the impact of the care and concern shown by a nurse. As a nurse myself, I am honored to share my profession with such a special nurse as Cheree.
