My husband and I started the rabies vaccine series at a hospital ER in lower Michigan after a bat exposure while we were there on vacation. We headed back home to Menominee, MI shortly after with a written order to receive the subsequent three injections. Our local hospital would not administer the injections on the order of a non-local doctor and the ER at the lower Michigan hospital would not cooperate in getting them the information they required. After many phone calls, we tried OSF and found that we could receive the injections there with the prescription order we had. We scheduled and received the second and third injections there, but we were going to need to make other arrangements again for the fourth one because we needed to be out of town again. Our nurse during the third injection was supervising some nursing students, who did a great job by the way, and we were telling her about the difficulties we had had trying to get the vaccines. She suggested getting the supervisor involved to see if they could offer any assistance. The supervisor was Emily. She said she would look into some possibilities and let us know what she found out. In a couple of days, she called and said she talked with the pharmacist who also looked into it and found that it would be acceptable for us to receive the final injection one day early which allowed us to have the fourth injection there at OSF on our way out of town. After so many roadblocks, we were grateful we checked with OSF and we appreciate your cooperation. We would like to especially recognize Emily for going above and beyond to be helpful.
