I'd like to bring to your attention to a recent event that, if not for the experience, competence and compassion demonstrated by Nurse Shelli Williams, could well have ended in life threatening illness for our father.
Our family had long planned a birthday party for our father which was to have taken place at WinnPrairie during late afternoon hours. Nurse Williams was the nurse attending to the care of our father on this date and after interacting with him early in the morning, she noted a distinct difference in his behavior. She took the initiative to investigate further and upon doing so, found further medical evidence that led her to believe a medical illness might well be responsible for her observations. Nurse Williams made immediate contact with our family and suggested that we seek additional medical care outside of the facility. We subsequently did so and upon testing at the hospital, it was determined that a significant infection had developed within the previous 24 hours. Our father was admitted to the hospital for treatment and has since been released with ongoing care being provided by WinnPrairie Nursing staff members. All indications are that there will be a full recovery from this event,
In speaking with the Emergency Room physician, it was learned that the above infection could have swiftly turned fatal had treatment not been sought in such a timely manner. It was the astute observations of Nurse Williams on this morning that certainly was the determining factor in securing the care that was needed. Nurse Williams was extremely familiar with our father's extensive medical conditions, his personality traits and his daily behavior. Had she not been as completely engaged in our father's ongoing healthcare, we certainly would have been facing a much direr situation moving forward.We are grateful and indebted for her exemplary service.
