I have been a patient at the Boulder Wound Healing Center for the better part of the last two months. I am writing today to talk about one particularly exceptional nurse at the Boulder Wound Healing Center—Ms. Laura Spalding. You see, I had developed a serious wound on the back of my left heel. My personal circumstances left me with a very short, 4-week window, to take care of my wound before another forthcoming international business trip. Also, a decision needed to be made as to whether or not my wound could heal well enough for me to actually go on this important business trip. To be honest, I did not even know that the Boulder Wound Healing Center even existed until my PCP sent me there after seeing my wound and providing for my initial care. You see, I needed a specialty Center with people who were responsive, experienced, well-informed, and could work with me on such short notice to ensure that my health concerns were addressed before and during my upcoming trip.
As a result, I spent a fair amount of time in the Wound Healing Center before my trip, and I can't begin to tell you how impressed I was by the Center, its employees, and most particularly Laura's extraordinary abilities and service-orientation. Laura and the Center not only met my expectations but far exceeded them. Laura not only has all the service characteristics of an outstanding nurse but also all the attributes of an amazing person.
As a nurse, she is an extremely professional, knowledgeable, attentive, prepared, informative, and diligent person. She provided creative solutions to my wound and forthcoming business travel challenges, took initiative at every step of the way, followed up with me in a timely fashion, and went far out of her way to be helpful and make sure that my wound did not get infected. For example, Laura took into account every single detail of my wound care, recommended the proper wound treatments and dressings, and showed exceptional flexibility in making suggestions and revisions to my treatments as my healing progressed. Most importantly, she showed me how to prepare, clean, and apply any necessary wound care ointments and dressings between visits to the Center and while away on the trip. This became even more important to me because I incurred a couple of new wounds while on my trip to a part of the world that did not have the best medical facilities. When I finally got to a country which did and saw a doctor, he told me that I treated these new wounds properly, and gave me two prescriptions just in case they became infected. My ability to do this was directly attributed to watching and listening to Laura and having her teach me what to do between my visits to the Center when I was at home.
Upon my return home, I went back to the Center for another examination. I'm pleased to say that I have made excellent progress toward a complete recovery and only have a few more treatments, spaced further apart, left.
I have been traveling as an international business consultant for over 45 years, working in over 80 countries, often spending as much as 200 days overseas a year, which is why it was so challenging for me to get the necessary healthcare in order to squeeze in this trip. In all my years of interacting with medical facilities, their doctors, nurses, and other medical providers, I have met less than a handful of people as extraordinary as Ms. Spalding!
On a personal level, it was always a pleasure to talk with her. Laura has a special way of being outgoing and friendly, yet with the proper amount of professionalism and reserve—no matter what the circumstances. She is good-natured, personable, kind, focused, a great listener, and extremely service-oriented. In short, she treated me not only as a valued patient but as a human being.
I truly appreciated her dedication to her job and her ability to make me feel that I was in good hands and that, if treated properly, my wounds would heal without incident. She is a very special person and, from my point-of-view, she was the most important reason that my wound healing experience has been so successful. Because of Ms. Spalding, and some of the other fine service providers who are affiliated with Boulder Wound Healing Center, I will be sure to recommend this Center to everyone I know.
