As routine as it may be for your hospital staff to take care of a patient through the process of brain surgery, it's never routine for the patient.
Although I was a bit groggy most of my stay in the ICU, I vividly remember my awesome nurse, Phil.
Because I am an adult patient, the pediatric beds were short for my 5'5" body. My husband had to keep pulling me up in the bed so I wouldn't feel scrunched and unbelievably uncomfortable. Phil took a quick look at this, and without hesitation adjusted the extension at the foot of the bed. While this might seem small, it made a world of difference for me and my husband. It felt like I went from having a twin bed to a California king and I was able to stretch out at last.
While going over my plan of care and answering my copious amount of questions, Phil (although super busy with other patients) would take the time to actually bend down on his knees so he'd be eye level with me as I laid in bed. It was during those moments that I didn't feel like just a patient, I felt normal.
I wanted to let you know what a great team you have and thank you for obviously doing such a wonderful job. Phil, thank you once again from the bottom of my heart, for taking such amazing care of me. You made me, as a patient, feel reassured, cared for and normal at such a vulnerable time.
