As a 33-year-old getting a full hysterectomy I was scared out of my mind. I was really hoping for a sweet compassionate nurse and I was blessed with Brianna. I feel like people always complain about workers and don't praise the good ones as they should. So here is my story of Brianna. She blew my mind when I first was wheeled into her care at 12 am with such encouraging words and such a compassionate heart. I know I complained, was very hangry and tired. She knew I just came out of surgery and asked me, "what can I do for your stay to be better?" She offered me a snack, water, juice, anything to help me settle in. I'm not sure about you, but first impressions mean a lot to me, when she left to get me one of the above, I turned to my husband and said, I'm in good hands, everything will be okay. I can just tell shortly after she came back she assured me again if I needed anything to let her know. When it came time to take my catheter out she was there cheering me on, knowing how painful it was. She helped me go to the bathroom. It was funny because she helped me get out of the tangled IV and then I decided to take off the whole gown so I wouldn't get pee/water on it. She said, "are we peeing naked now, is this your new thing?" I was laughing so hard, I told her, "yes it's a new thing." So now it's our joke when someone visits me and has to use the bathroom. Those are the types of nurses everyone should have. Compassionate, kind, witty and willing to laugh or cry right along with.
Another moment that I'll cherish is that she went through all the medication I had to see how I can bypass a suppository, unfortunately, there wasn't. I wasn't looking forward to it (who is?) but Brianna made me feel more relaxed in such a way to encourage me and making my stay 100% comfortable and pain-free. Brianna thank you for making my stay a great one. You are truly the best.
