Barbara consistently goes out of her way to provide compassionate and considerate care to not only love patients, but their families as well. She will often go the extra mile when bathing her patients at night, combing their hair and tidying their rooms. She gets to know them all and makes time to get to know their families and their stories. She is often seen finding extra blankets and pillows for anxious loved ones explaining the plan of care as many times as necessary for them to understand. She is very good with "high maintenance" patients and their families—she seems to have an endless supply of time, kindness, and care for their feelings and experience.
Recently, she made such a difference inspiring hope and perseverance to a family, whose traumatic cardiac arrest grew into a seemingly endless hospital stay spanning months and multiple transfers. She has very high standards for the nursing care she delivers and she also strives to hold her fellow nurses to the same standards, thereby also improving the quality of care and professionalism in the whole unit. She is a model employee whose dedication has benefited nearly every unit of the hospital. Barbara is a true DAISY Nurse.
