Demonstrating Kindness and Compassion to Patients and Families: Mary is always kind and compassionate to her patients and their families and strives to make them feel comfortable and safe. A patient had diarrhea that covered his lower body to his feet. Mary cleaned the patient best she could, then took him to the shower and stayed with him and then dressed him. She then changed the bed linen and retuned the patient back to bed. This was not even her patient. Mary helps nursing assistants by taking vital signs and answering call bells. She is concerned for all patients and staff on the unit, not just her patients.
Providing Skills Care to Patients and Families: Mary's skill level is commendable. She is a resource to other staff and a preceptor on our unit. She consistently starts IV access for nurses.
Informing and Educating Patients and Families: Mary educates the patients verbally and through care notes. She is aware of community resources.
Offering a Voice of Hope and Love to Patients and Families: Mary is soft-spoken and calm around others and her patients and families, smiling and making them feel comfortable.
Touching the Lives of Others: Mary volunteers at Better Health weekly and is always thoughtful to staff by jumping in and doing without asking when someone is drowning, whether you're an aide or nurse.
