Beau cared for a 97-year-old patient that had vascular issues and was supposed to be transferred from the Pineville ED to Carolinas Medical Center. Twenty-five hours later, the patient was still in Pineville's ED - waiting! We did not have orders; this patient was having pain and Beau had to talk to the ED physician constantly. He took the time to obtain an inpatient bed for this patient to make him more comfortable. Beau had to make multiple calls to the other hospital and get others involved to get specialty doctors involved to help this patient while waiting for the transfer.
After all the time and effort, it was decided that this patient would stay at Pineville. Due to age and comorbidities, this patient was not a candidate for the procedures that were initially planned. This patient's daughter was a nurse and was very appreciative of the effort and the constant updates Beau gave to her. Beau always puts this much effort into all of his patients. The commitment and care that he shows to his patients go beyond words!
