Kara has been an excellent addition to our WCH ED. She has not only brought along her amazing skill with ultrasound-guided IV but her chipper attitude. I've walked into rooms alongside Kara and parents are instantly calmed by her presence. She is kind, and compassionate, with a wonderful smile.
I am brought back to a situation a couple of weeks ago with an anxious mother. The child needed an IV and had some previous experiences that did not end in a good result. The mother was more anxious than the child, so after situating the child and explaining the procedure, Kara began to chat with the mother. She spoke to her as if she was an old friend. At this time the child was so relaxed she didn't even notice Kara placing the IV. The mother was also noticeably calm and in a much better mood. Kara not only reassured this mother and child but treated them like family.
Kara is not only like this to her patients but to her coworkers as well. There have been many times where I personally have come to work just a little down. Kara as always been able to see through me and takes time when she has it to sit down, talk to me, and ask me how my day is. It's so very clear to see her heart shine through her actions. In my opinion, Kara embodies what it means to be a DAISY Nurse. She is everything I aspire to be as a nurse. She is kind, compassionate, caring, warm, loving. I could go on and on about Kara, but I don't think words will ever really describe Kara. She's just Kara.
Kara, thank you for sharing your many gifts with us at Wolfson. Congratulations, you make us proud!
