My baby was born at 34 weeks. It was a very difficult time for my family. I have a rare brittle bone disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, and there was a 50/50 chance my baby would also have it. We had to wait for his diagnosis, so the NICU nurses had to handle my son as if he was made of glass until the test results came back. Mindy took such great extra special care of my possibly fragile preemie. I was beside myself when the NICU doctors sat me down and explained it was time for my son to get feeding interventions. I was scared to death of the thought of my baby getting an NG tube. The only thing that gave me comfort was knowing that my favorite NICU nurse, Mindy, was his nurse the night we consented to an NG tube.
Mindy came to the Mother-Baby Unit, just to talk to me and my husband. She sat down at the end of my bed and talked with me about every single fear and anxiety I had regarding the NG tube procedure. She is one of the most compassionate nurses I have ever met. She validated all of the feelings I was having. It was truly meant to be that Mindy was my son's NICU nurse that very scary night.
I couldn't help but notice Mindy's incredibly skilled and tiny hands. She is one of those people who was meant to be a nurse, and even more so, a NICU nurse. Mindy made a difference in my son's care and my care, and I cannot thank her enough for simply taking the time to come talk to me before his procedure. She was also the NICU nurse in the operating room with me when my son was born by emergency c-section. She took great care of him that night. Mindy was the nurse who introduced us to our son. She was the first nurse to handle him, and she was very careful. It made us feel so relieved that she handled him so cautiously. Mindy is an expert NICU nurse. I will never forget her!
