The summer of 2019 has not been an easy one. The same day that my husband and I found out we were expecting our first baby, my mother found out that she was diagnosed with cancer. It was the pure definition of bittersweet. As a first time expectant mother, there are many worries that come with being a future mother and carrying the child. With the added stress of my familial medical problems, worry and stress has been a commonality in my pregnancy. Over a period of 24 hours, I noticed that my baby wasn't moving as much as he had been previously. My husband and I decided to go in for a non-stress test on the Family Care Unit. Nurse Jill del Rio greeted us in the ER, with a big smile and took us right away to the third floor. I knew that we were in good hands. For an hour Jill made sure that myself and the baby were doing just fine. Luckily, everything was alright. I was so immensely blessed to have Jill as our nurse that night. She had a calming, caring, presence, and she knew how to use humor when necessary to calm my heart. I am grateful for her medical knowledge, and her care and concern for her patients. I could feel that even if I was her 50th patient for the day, I would be treated as if I was her first. She truly is a lovely human being.
