Adrienne stood out to me and every other visitor of ours who laid eyes on her during their visit. She was genuinely concerned with how I (mama) and baby were doing at all times. I am a type 1 diabetic, who has 3 other children, however, this was my first born with a major lip and tongue tie and my first to carry while being on insulin. C was born at 37 weeks and was little!
During our stay, Adrienne listened and took action with any of my concerns - anything from the tongue tie issue to blood sugar, to formula, to breastfeeding. She never blew me off. She tried to ease my and dad's mind or make it better. We were blessed to have Adrienne multiple shifts and she was truly the best each time.
The last shift we had with her we were supposed to be sent home that day. I felt very strongly that something was wrong with C. I felt like she was acting the same way I do when my blood sugar is low. However, it didn't feel like I was being heard. But I knew that Adrienne would listen. That morning while she was going through prior shift notes she asked about my blood sugars; I told her I was still going really low and C was not eating and was sleeping a lot. I asked if we could get the baby's blood sugar checked again and she was on it. She took C's blood sugar again and luckily caught that it was at 27 - this was within one hour from us being sent home. C was then sent to the nursery and stayed, but luckily it was caught before we left and nothing bad happened. I truly feel that if it wasn't for Adrienne we would have driven home (an hour away) and possibly lost our baby overnight.
Thank you, Adrienne, for being a wonderful nurse, an advocate for me and for saving our C's life.
