My husband was a patient on 4R. He had a throat biopsy and then a trach placed. Our nurse for the first two days was Tashara. Besides being one of the kindest people, she was an excellent nurse who shared her knowledge of our situation with grace. She made us comfortable from the start and we were lucky to have her our first two days. We received the news that my husband's cancer required a total laryngectomy. I was devastated, my anxiety flared and I felt everything was slipping away. As I walked out of the room in fear, I saw her sitting at the desk and I believe I said: "Tashara, they are taking his voice". Even though she was not assigned to us, she got up, hugged me and said, "Let's walk". She took me to a quiet area and helped me to understand this was the only way my husband could survive. I'm not sure if she knows what she did for me that day, she gave me hope! Tashara has a part of my heart for life. She is my angel forever.
