I want to express how much I appreciate the care that has been given to my daughter, S. She has fought a long, hard battle of drug addiction. We have spent many days in the hospital due to an infection she developed called endocarditis. We have stayed for several weeks in a couple of different hospitals. I only wish she was aware enough to see how well she has been treated by the staff here. They all have reached out to us and showed compassion that she nor our family has ever received at any other hospital. I mostly want to mention Aime Smith, RN. She should be rewarded for having such compassion and care within her. When my daughter came out of the sedated coma after she first arrived, Aime was her nurse for several nights. She showed S that she cared and had compassion. She was not only her nurse, but she comforted her by keeping her emotionally comfortable as well. She took time out to wash her hair and made it look good so it would not get matted up. She has been here to see her even after she was no longer her nurse. Dropping in, checking on her, and yet again taking care of S's hair - brushing it, braiding it, and making it look nice again.
S was not able to talk due to being on a ventilator, but for a short period of time, she was able to write. Aime and my daughter discovered they both love Cherry Lemon Sundrop. As we, her family, came in one day, there sat a Cherry Lemon Sundrop, because she had told S when she gets better that she would bring her one and they would drink it together. Aime showed my daughter that she wasn't just an addict as we have experienced in the past. Aime showed my daughter that there were people who had not lost their compassion and still treat everyone the same! This may not mean much to some, but to S and my family, it means more than you will ever know!
I also want to thank all the others that have come in on their way in for their shifts who popped by to let us know they were still thinking of all of us and had us on their minds. I don't know how much longer S has, but I know I only wish she could have been alert enough to see how good and humanely she has been treated. Again, I want to thank everyone, but especially Aime Smith, RN who that that extra step to communicate with S and get to know her better than any medical staff ever has. She talked to S like she had known her forever and reminds me of who S is, as they have the same personality. This is the hardest thing a parent could ever go through and I thank all the staff who are assisting with my daughter. Leaving at night is hard, but they have made it a little easier to go home for rest because I know she is in good, caring hands.
