Melissa had a very sick patient - she was young and scared. Her family had a lot of questions. Melissa, who herself had been diagnosed with a rare disease/sickness, recognized similar signs/symptoms in her patient and facilitated in diagnosing the patient. She went out of her way to provide printed materials to the family, constantly educating them. The doctor actually called Melissa from home to thank her for a job well done. Melissa came in extra specifically to care for her. The family called sometimes 3 times an hour and she never got annoyed. She would go out of her way to call them and update them. Melissa is sweet, knowledgeable, and she is also a great charge nurse. She has a calm and reassuring presence in the ICU.
