Recently, the Cath Lab was called and told we needed to come to get a patient from CVICU ASAP, she was status post code blue. Once the patient was in the Cath Lab, we had three Cardiologists from two different groups, and seven Cath Lab team members working to try to save this patient for over two hours. In the end, the outcome was not what they worked so hard for, as the patient passed. However, as proud as I was to witness this team's work, it was what I witnessed afterward that truly touched me and even made me tear up. Anna Collazo was very diligent and respectful in the care and compassion she showed this patient postmortem. Anna ensured the patient was clean, with every IV site covered, blood cleaned from her face, and her hair brushed... all in order to let her family see her for the last time while ensuring the patient was well respected in the process. When I say Anna did a phenomenal job, I mean she took her time with every detail. She showed this patient the respect she would want to be given to her own grandmother and it showed. Anna is an amazing asset to the Cath Lab team and on this day, I could not have been prouder!!
